About Old Orchard

Old Orchard is a West Toledo neighborhood packed into a little under a square mile, bordered by Bancroft Street, Secor Road, Central Avenue, and Douglas Road, with the University of Toledo on its south edge and the village of Ottawa Hills just to the west. It went up in the 1920s on the site of old apple and peach orchards, and most of the homes are brick in the English Tudor style, set on a grid of streets with English place names like Pemberton, Densmore, Barrington, and Cheltenham. Kenwood Boulevard runs a landscaped median through the middle, and several streets end in the little triangular grassy islands the neighborhood is known for. It's an established, leafy place, which means mature trees, narrow driveways, and homes that have been remodeled more than once. From our Delta yard, it's about a half-hour east.

Dumpster rental in Old Orchard

We run all five roll-off sizes into Old Orchard. The 10-yard suits a bathroom remodel or a heavy load of plaster and concrete from an old basement. The 15 and 20-yard handle a kitchen tear-out, a flooring job, or a slate or asphalt roof. The 30 and 40-yard are for whole-house cleanouts and bigger remodels.

Placement takes some thought in Old Orchard. The brick Tudors here were built in the 1920s, so a lot of the driveways are narrow, run back to a detached garage, and pass under mature trees, and the streets sit tight against the curb. On a fresh driveway or a hot day we'll set boards under the box so it doesn't mark the surface, and we put it where you want it instead of just where it's easy. Streets like Pemberton, Barrington, and the blocks off Kenwood near the grassy islands run close, so send a photo of the spot when you call and we'll figure out whether it goes on the drive or curbside.

The jobs we see most in Old Orchard are remodels on the older homes, kitchen and bath tear-outs, plaster-and-lath work, and the basement and attic cleanouts that come with a hundred-year-old house. Roof tear-offs and garage cleanouts come up when a place changes hands, and deck and shed demos run through the warmer months.

Bulk landscape materials in Old Orchard

For the landscape side, topsoil and mulch go by the yard and sand and stone by the ton. Both the topsoil and the mulch are made on our own lot, which keeps out-of-town freight from creeping into the price.

Old Orchard's settled lawns and shaded beds go through a lot of mulch and topsoil, and under those mature trees the grass thins out, so a load of screened topsoil to regrade and reseed is a common order here. The older brick homes are good candidates for decorative river rock along the foundation and clean stone where a downspout or a low spot keeps the yard wet. Tudor-era driveways and walks that need rebuilding take a limestone base underneath.

Old Orchard sits near the edge of our 25-mile delivery range, so call to confirm a delivery to your address, or run a truck or trailer out to our Delta yard and we'll load you. Not sure how much you need? Each material page has a calculator that works it out by length, width, and depth. A lot of folks doing a full yard redo rent a dumpster for the old material and order the new stone and mulch in the same call.

Roads and neighborhoods in Old Orchard

Old Orchard is boxed in by four main roads: Bancroft Street on the north, Central Avenue on the south, Secor Road on the east, and Douglas Road on the west, with the University of Toledo campus sitting right below Bancroft. Inside that box the streets run a grid of English names, Pemberton, Densmore, Barrington, Cheltenham, Aldringham, Middlesex, and Brantford among them, with Kenwood Boulevard cutting east to west as a landscaped median and several streets ending in the small triangular grassy islands you see around Hopewell and Darlington. Secor and Central carry most of the through traffic, Ottawa Hills borders the west side, and Wildwood Preserve Metropark sits a short drive west off Central. Tell us your cross streets when you call and we'll plan placement so the box sits clean on a tight drive and the truck has room to pull back out.

Old Orchard questions, answered

Do you deliver dumpsters to Old Orchard?

Yes. We run all five roll-off sizes into Old Orchard from our Delta yard. Tell us the address and what you're clearing and we'll line up a drop.

Can the dumpster go on my driveway in Old Orchard?

Usually yes. The older brick Tudors here often have narrow driveways and mature trees overhead, so send a photo of the spot when you call. On a hot day or a fresh driveway we'll set boards under the box so it doesn't mark the surface.

Do you deliver mulch, topsoil, and stone to Old Orchard?

Old Orchard sits near the edge of our 25-mile delivery range, so give us a call to confirm a delivery to your address, or pick it up at our Delta yard. Mulch and topsoil are sold by the cubic yard, sand and stone by the ton.

How much mulch or stone do I need?

Measure your bed front to back and top to bottom, then run those figures through the calculator on the material page for a close estimate. Give us a call after and we'll settle the final amount.

Can I pick up materials at the yard instead of having them delivered to Old Orchard?

Yes. Bring a truck or trailer to our Delta yard and we'll load you. That's a common choice for Old Orchard folks near the edge of our delivery range.

What size dumpster do I need for a plaster tear-out on an Old Orchard Tudor?

For a bathroom or a heavy load of old plaster and concrete a 10-yard usually does it, since plaster and lath run heavy. A full kitchen tear-out or a floor of it is more of a 15 or 20-yard job. Tell us the room and the material when you call and we'll point you to the right size.

How long can I keep the dumpster on my street in Old Orchard?

The standard rental runs 10 days, which covers most of the remodels and cleanouts we see on these older homes. If a plaster job or an attic cleanout runs long, extra days are $10 a day, so just let us know when you call and we'll keep it out there.
