A family yard in Delta, Ohio
We rent roll-off dumpsters and sell bulk landscape materials. We make most of what we sell right here at our yard.
How we got here
Jim and his brother Bob started Lammon Bros in 2002 doing lawn care and landscaping. Jim was eighteen. Their shop sat twenty miles from the nearest competitor. They bought so much mulch for jobs that it stopped making sense to pay for it, so they started making their own.
In 2008, they got their EPA certification and opened a yard waste recycling operation. By 2009, they took in brush, leaves, grass, and broken concrete. They recycled the waste into topsoil, ground the brush into mulch, and crushed the concrete into base stone. The material yard grew out of that.
By 2021, they wound down the lawn care side. In 2022, they added roll-off dumpsters. The idea came the year before, when people kept calling the office asking for dumpsters because they couldn't get one anywhere else in time. The dumpsters took off, and both sides of the business have run out of the same Delta yard ever since.
Jim runs the day-to-day now. Bob is still part of it, but Jim is the one you will usually deal with.
The yard
We operate from an 18-acre yard in Delta with a 3,000 square foot shop. Jim started hauling with a single triaxle dump truck in 2009. Today, our fleet of straight dump trucks and semis delivers materials and drops off dumpsters across the Toledo area and into Southeast Michigan. Our 2008 EPA certification lets us recycle yard waste and concrete on site, which has been central to our materials business ever since.
Around the yard
What we do
We do two things. We rent roll-off dumpsters in five sizes for cleanouts, roofs, remodels, and contractor jobs. And we sell bulk landscape materials: topsoil and mulch we make ourselves, plus sand, limestone, gravel, and river rock by the ton. Most weeks we do both. People doing big projects often rent a dumpster for the old material and order new stone and mulch in the same call.
What keeps the work coming
Service, mostly. When we drop a dumpster, we put it where you want it, and we don't tear up the yard getting it there. On a new driveway or a hot day we'll set boards under it. When we say we'll be there, we're there. That's why local roofing and demo crews run with us: they need the box dropped before the tear-off starts and swapped when it's full, not when someone gets around to it.
It's the same on the materials side. If you want a load of pool sand dropped right where the pool is going, across the lawn, we'll do it. Plenty of places won't. We figure out what makes sense for the job.
